A sanctuary in nature

For this family, building their new home wasn’t just about creating a beautiful space - it was about crafting a sanctuary. “We wanted our home to feel like a retreat,” explains homeowner Lara Masri. “A place that provides comfort, calm and relaxation in the middle of our otherwise hectic lives.” To achieve this, they focused on creating a serene atmosphere filled with natural elements that reflected the environment surrounding their house.

A natural influence

Living close to nature had a big impact on their design choices. ”Being so close to nature inspired us to aim for an organic feel,” Lara explains. “We chose wood, stone and earthy tones to reflect our natural surroundings.” This was so that the interior would feel like an extension of the outdoors.

The home should feel warm and inviting, yet modern and stylish.

The family’s choice of flooring was both practical and aesthetic. “Beyond durability, we wanted the floor to serve as a key design element,” Lara says. To create a cohesive flow throughout the house, they opted for threshold-free flooring, using the same material in every room. “It was important that the floor connected the different spaces, felt comfortable to walk on, and made a beautiful impression that harmonised with the rest of the interior.”

A key decision in the building process

Building a new home comes with countless decisions, and for this family, the flooring was central to the process. “Choosing the right floor from the start was essential because it impacts the feel of the entire house,” Lara says. They sought something timeless, durable and able to age naturally, considering both aesthetics and functionality.

When it came to colour, the family experimented with various tones before settling on a lighter wood shade. “We chose a natural wood tone that reflects the light and complements the bright walls and large windows, as well as our light oak kitchen,” Lara says. The goal was to create an airy and spacious feel while maintaining a cohesive palette.

The floor colour played a crucial role in keeping the materials tied together, harmonising with nature.

Complementing their style

The chosen flooring complements the family’s Scandinavian, minimalist, and nature-inspired decor. “The floor works as a neutral base that highlights other elements in the interior,” Lara says. It’s sleek and understated, striking the perfect balance with the carefully selected details in their home.

Opting for the largest planks in XXL size had a transformative effect on their space. “The wide planks create a sleek, unified look and make the rooms feel larger and more open,” Lara says. “The wide planks also lend a calm and modern expression to the home.”

Smooth installation

The family left the installation to professionals. “Our carpenters were amazing and one of them had conveniently installed a Bjelin floor in his own home,” Lara says. “The process went flawlessly and quicker than we expected. Our understanding is that the floor was easy to install.”

Sustainability and durability were important factors in their choice. “We prioritised sustainability, both from an environmental and quality perspective,” Lara says. They wanted a floor that was not only eco-friendly but would last for years to come, making it a responsible choice for their family and the environment.

We chose a floor with a focus on sustainability and eco-friendly materials.

Are they happy with the outcome?

“We couldn’t be more satisfied! It’s truly one of the best decisions we made in the entire house-building process,” Lara says. As for their top three favourite qualities of the floor? “Its durability and quality, how easy it is to clean, and how it elevates the entire room with its natural and sleek look.”
