What was once two separate apartments in Mallorca has been transformed into a stunning, multi-level home – Casa Maricell – thanks to the vision of owners Ann-Sofie and Jörgen Warsell and the expertise of Claudio Radu Dreptate, owner of Klas Projects Management.
“At the beginning, it was two apartments,” Claudio explains. “We had to change a lot of the structure, especially with many pillars in between. The staircase was particularly difficult to design while keeping the space open and elegant.”
The result? A modern, light-filled home with breathtaking views and carefully curated materials. “When you walk in here, you immediately feel embraced,” says Ann-Sofie. “We’re not quite finished, but we’ve found harmony in our interior choices.”
The entrance leads through a former stairwell into an open-plan kitchen, dining and living area. Large sliding doors open to a balcony with lounge chairs and a small dining space – and an unforgettable view of the bay.
Design details
The home’s modern aesthetic is enhanced by thoughtful design choices, such as the cute balcony that sits on one side of the house, and the staircase that leads to a rooftop terrace with a sail-covered lounge, outdoor kitchen and dining area.
The couple chose Bjelin’s Woodura flooring for the upper level, including the three bedrooms and large hallway. “We wanted a warmer, more comfortable feel upstairs,” says Jörgen. “Especially in winter, when it gets colder and damper, it’s nice to have Bjelin floors to step onto.”
They selected GRYTET in the Vapor colour after comparing several options. This flooring is from the Contrast Collection, which highlights the grain in the wood. “GRYTET best matched our other interior choices,” Jörgen explains. “The grain provides a warm and lively effect – it adds life to the floor.”
Built for the Mediterranean climate
Mallorca’s climate presents unique challenges, with high humidity and seasonal temperature shifts. “Even within Mallorca, humidity levels vary,” Claudio explains. “You have to look closely at the technical specs of each floor and how it adapts to local conditions.”
“Given the technical properties of Bjelin’s Woodura floors, they’re ideal for this climate,” Jörgen adds. “Hot and humid in summer, cold and damp in winter – it handles it all.”
Installation was also a breeze. “The builders were super happy,” Jörgen recalls. “Easy to install and manage.” Claudio agrees: “It’s light, easy to work with, and high quality. The waterproofing helped a lot, and it was easy to mix with other flooring types. I’m looking forward to using it in future projects.”
A floor worth repeating
“We’re very satisfied,” says Ann-Sofie. “We haven’t lived here long, but so far, so good.” “We’d absolutely choose Bjelin again,” Jörgen adds. “Next project – definitely,” Ann-Sofie agrees.
